Sat 8 April
New members’ one day outdoor event
Bowles Rocks – a one day trip to the Southern Sandstone of Bowles Rocks, an hour and a half’s drive from London. The club will coordinate transport and bring ropes and slings. New members just bring your harness, belay device and rock shoes and money for the venue’s £5 entrance fee and the pub. We ask that you attend a short course at a climbing wall in advance to learn how to tie in and belay safely, if you need to.
If you haven’t climbed outside before, sandstone is an unusual rock – you’ll experience better friction on other types of rock more common to UK crags. But it’s close to London and it’ll be fun.
We’ll head to a nearby pub for food and drinks afterwards.
Existing members please join us to welcome prospective new members!
Find out about the venue here: http://www.bowles.ac/outdoor-activities/rock-climbing
Keep Sunday 9th in reserve as we’ll move the day if it’s wet on the Saturday.
Sunday 21 May 6-8pm (provisional timing)
The Italian Dolomites – talk
In the function room at: The Lemon Tree, 4 Bedfordbury, Covent Garden, London, WC2N 4BP
An illustrated talk about the varied and exciting options for climbing, mountain walking and via ferrata in the Italian Dolomites. This is the location for our summer Alpine trip in 2017 (from 29 June, see the Meets page). Join us for a fascinating insight into the location, activities, routes and more. Meet others who are interested and start planning for the trip or just come along for a chat.
Steve Melvin is presenting the talk on climbing and Sarah Glover will be talking about hut walking and possible itineraries. They both have a wealth of experience of the location. Between them they’ll also cover via ferrata.
The Lemon Tree serves Thai food up till 7pm on Sunday.
