Winter climbing meet – planning & talk

October 22, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm

This is the kick off planning meeting for our Winter Climbing trip in the last week of February 2018. We are offering 6 places for a 4-day winter climbing trip. 2 places are already taken by experienced members. The location will remain flexible until very close to departure in order to get the best conditions. Possible locations include: Scotland, Serre Chevalier and Cogne, Italy. Options will be discussed and planning will begin at this informal evening talk.

Come along to find out more, with no commitment at this early stage. A deposit to secure group accommodation will be collected a few weeks later.

This is a members-only meet. Our most recently joined members are welcome. If you have little winter climbing experience already, you will need to book a winter skills course in advance.  Experienced members can make suggestions of how and where to do this, at the talk, and also on hire or purchase of gear. Note that winter climbing requires good levels of fitness and some prior experience of winter walking (start preparing early!).

Winter climbing meet dates: Thurs Feb 22 or Fri 23rd (fly out) to Mon 26 Feb 2018.

Talk venue: Covent Garden

From 6pm for a Thai meal and / or drinks before the meeting: start time 7pm.

The Lemon Tree – upstairs room from 7pm
4 Bedfordbury
London
WC2N 4BP

Let us know if you’re coming to the talk by emailing: socialsec@themmc.org.uk

  1. I’ve done regular alpine mountaineering (up to AD), most recently a crevasse rescue course last month. Lots of climbing steep slopes in crampons etc, but I’ve never actually done any climbing up ice walls using two axes. Is that sufficient experience?
