Gower Meet Report

Somewhat incomplete and garbled rumours have reached this office regarding an MMC visit to the Gower in September. By utilising the latest forensic technology and eavesdropping devices the following meet report has been re-constructed from incomplete emails and half overheard conversation in the pub...

Saturday

Robin, Wendy, Hilary, Des, Paige, Juan, Matt and Chuck headed off to Fall Bay at Rhossili. Robin climbed a “vaguely VS line” called Bottle and then settled down for a marathon belaying session. Meanwhile Hilary had her first taste of real rock climbing with Chuck. When the routes were done, there was still time for a swim and some bouldering.

The surfer dudes (Brendon, John H, Jane, Paul, and John B at least) also headed over to Rhossili where they enjoyed some excellent 1 metre waves. Apparently John B was lucky to survive Jane’s assassination attempt when she made no effort to turn across the wave to avoid him.

Mark and Simon had a productive days climbing consisting of three VS routes at Paviland and Juniper Walls.

Saturday evening no doubt consisted of much revelry and telling of tall tales, or perhaps everyone just had an early night with a mug of horlicks, willing away the autumn night with some wistful star gazing. Who knows?

The next day, was Sunday. The surfers headed over to Rhossili again, but conditions were not so good. Simon, Kate, Steinar and Pete went climbing at King Wall in Thor’s Bay, although Kate managed to forget her rope and gear. No doubt distracted by this oversight, she then dropped her climbing helmet down the cliff in to the sea where it was rescued by a friendly surfer.

Meanwhile Matt had some route finding difficulty on Middle Earth (VS). He eventually topped out, which was just as well for Stephan who was stranded half way up the nearby Shelob (HS) with jammed ropes. He spent the best part of an hour standing on a ledge until Matt dropped him a top rope.

Err, that’s it.
