Friday
The last trip for the Chuckmobile was slightly delayed by lack of tent but it meant the occupants were able to enjoy a refreshing pint of very good beer before making their merry way to Wales. Meanwhile Tom Dixon had already completed a day's mountain biking at Coed-y-Brenin Forest doing Karrimor Trail (38km) and MBR Trail (22km) and was already tucked up in his tent when the Chuckmobile arrived at Cae Du where they enjoyed yet more beers with the other latecomers before camping down for the night.

Saturday

A lovely sunny morning so everybody was up bright and early to make the most of the day. Tom and Alix disappeared at the crack of dawn to Idwal Slabs and racked up 9 pitches on Tennis Shoe (S), Faith (V Diff) and a bold VS lead in the freezing cold from Tom on Javelin Butress on the upper tier.

Nick, Mark W, Cath and Simon headed for the Pass, where Nick and Mark W had a very busy day at the Grochan, where they climbed Spectre (4 pitch HVS), attempted to climb Sickle (HVS) before getting lost and lowering off, blaming the guidebook (well it couldn't be their route finding now could it) and finished with Brant Direct (HVS). Simon and Cath meanwhile attempted a couple of routes completing Nea and backed off Lion on Carreg Wastad which they found scary due to the lack of gear.

Rick and Chuck headed off into the hills west of Snowdon to the deserted and sun-drenched 100 metre slab of Cwm Silyn, to climb the excellent Kirkus' Direct (HVS 5B) alternating the lead for the 3 pitches.

After a very leisurely breakfast, Tony and Tara tramped up the quiet Miner's track up Snowdon and down the Pyg track with half of the British public and had a giggle at girls in sparkly tops and high heeled booties making them both feel a tad overdressed! Jules and Wendy also had a long day on Snowdon, they walked up the Pyg track motorway and down the other half of the Snowdon Horseshoe, finishing up with a pint in the Pen-y-Gwryd where they unexpectedly bumped into Russ!

That evening most of the gang descended on the pub in Bedgellert for supper and a few beers taking refuge from the rain.

Sunday

Another fine day and quite a few people decided to head for the Moelwyns. Mark W and Nick climbed Pinky (VS) and then Space Below My Feet (HVS). Simon and Cath had a better day and climbed Slick and Slack (S) and Bent (S), and Tom lead Jules up Bent (S) and Kirkus's Climb Direct (S). Matt and Lou also had a better day than the day before in Stanage where Lou lead Physiology (VD) with much foul language and the nicer Bishop's Route (S 4a) before heading over to Bedgellert, this day Matt took the lead for White Streak/Honeysuckle Corner (HS) followed by Space Below My Feet.

Chuck and Wendy also joined the party later on and did a route after a hard days shopping buying more of Chuck's famous mini chairs! Rick and David headed off to Tremadoc where they were flagged down by Mark R who'd been stood-up by his climbing partner, so joined them in a 3.

In true Rick style they headed for the quieter and obscurer Craig y Gesail and climbed the 3 pitch Javelin (HVS 5A) having a major abseil faff coming down when they couldn't pull the rope through. After much tugging and heaving Rick finally went round the crag to free the knot, and was then persuaded to ab down it again. Result - still stuck. Another pair of climbers joined in the rope hauling, using the steep slope below the crag to put all their weight on the rope.until it suddenly came free resulting in one of them flying through the air and nearly knocking Rick out cold. However when they finally did get the rope down they had fun climbing the very overgrown two pitch Avalon (VS 4C) gardening their way through brambles, gorse bushes and loose rock! Paul and Delphine also climbed in Tremadoc, slowly ascending and rock hugging their way up Oberon (S).

Meanwhile, the walkers consisting of Tony, Tara and Sara, after a recommendation by Rick headed for Nantlle Ridge. They managed two ridges and as they headed towards the next set, it transpired that Technical-Terlecki had made a minor navigational error as they headed in the wrong direction while Tara and Sarah continued nattering and putting the world to rights, but happily he realised his mistake before too much time was lost! Due to swirling mists on higher ground they decided to abandon the remaining ridges and descended to the valley below and finished their walk through a tranquil forest. Again the rain came in and the evening was spent in the pub!

Monday

A damp start and a few spots of rain and in true MMC style most packed-up and fled. But the hardy Tom took to his bike again and did Marin trail (25km) in Gwydr Forrest, and Wendy, Chuck and Jules had Little Tryfan all to themselves and lucky Jules did some practice leads with her personal climbing tutors! And the faithful ever ready much loved Chuckmobile made its last exciting intrepid journey home with no wing mirrors, speedo or indicators!!
