Car Sharing

Dear Members,

Following suggestions from several MMC members and after much deliberation the committee have decided that it would be appropriate to set a mileage rate as a basis for calculating the contribution passengers should make towards the costs associated with taking private cars on club meets.

The rate has been set at 15pence per mile and should be divided by the total number of people travelling in the car. This rate is discretionary and is intended only as a guide for drivers and their passengers, although it is hoped that this would represent the upper limit of how much passengers should contribute.

For those of you who don’t own a car the rate set would barely cover the petrol cost alone for a large family car. Those with smaller cars will fare better, although the rate is also intended to cover some of the costs associated with the wear and tear of normal driving; tyres, brakes etc. The real costs associated with taking a car on a meet are much higher than would be covered by the rate set.

Please contact me, or any other member of the committee, if you have any further (sensible) queries relating to mileage rates.

Best wishes

John Bradshaw
Chair.
