DESCRIPTION:The Lake District is an absolute dream for climbers and walkers alike\, with more classics than you can shake a stick at. Due do the difficulties of travelling and staying over the bank holiday\, we’re suggesting going the weekend after instead. If you want to take the Friday off work and make the most of the full weekend\, there will be other people doing the same. If not\, then there is still plenty on offer for a fabulous weekend in one of the best outdoor venues in the country!

SUMMARY:North Wales Training Meet
DESCRIPTION:Our annual training meet will be in North Wales this year on the late May bank holiday long weekend. This is fantastic opportunity for those new to climbing outdoors\, or any climbers looking to improve or refresh their skills.  \nMembers are of course welcome as always! as are any Prospective members who are walkers. \nNorth Wales has excellent trad climbing\, as well as sport\, and is a beautiful\, and sometimes challenging\, area to walk in\, with amazing views. \n\nDate: Friday 22nd May – Monday 25th May 2026\nTime: When you or your travelling group is ready!\nLocation: Dolgam campsite – https://www.dolgam-snowdonia.co.uk/\nOrganiser: Oliver Barton\, or email meets-assist@themmc.org.uk \nSign-up Form: https://forms.gle/ESMAuTs6EACnm8MS8\n\nTraining Details \nYou’ll spend two days learning how to transfer your indoor climbing skills to the outdoors.  \nWe’ll cover: \n\nTop roping (both belaying from the ground and from the top of the crag)\nAbseiling\nSeconding a lead climber (removing protection on the way)\nBuilding anchors \nSafe conduct at the crag\n\nIf you come on the meet\, you’ll be able to get loads of time climbing on rock\, and meet like minded people to build your climbing network. We aim to give you the skills to be a confident second (belaying and following a lead climber)\, so that you can participate on other club meets\, and build your skills to develop your own independent climbing. \nThe training will run on the Saturday and Sunday\, whilst the meet itself will extend to the Monday\, for a day of relaxation\, walking\, or even a trip to the beach – anything that North Wales has to offer! Club members (including those running the training) will likely have their own plans and goals for the Monday\, so you shouldn’t necessarily expect to go climbing with them – there will be plenty of other meets over the summer for you to practice your new-found skills! \n You must have been met by a club member in advance of the weekend\, to check you can tie-in and belay (our Bowles Rocks Day Social Climb on 18th April is a good opportunity to do this\, but we can also make arrangements to it at a climbing wall in London). Please get in touch with Anna (membership@themmc.org.uk) before\, or when you sign up\, to arrange this. \nYou will need basic rope climbing skills and equipment to join the training weekend. \nThe training is led by a qualified club member\, assisted by other friendly club volunteers\, and we ask for a nominal donation of £15 towards running of the club and carbon off-setting. \nWe’re a club run by volunteers (we are not a provider\, we are overseen by the BMC as a club)   \nThe weekend is a camping meet. You need to bring or hire your own climbing essentials. SUMMARY:The Roaches / Southern Peak District
DESCRIPTION:This part of the Peak District boasts impressive gritstone edges and craggy rocks loved by walkers and climbers. As one of the best gritstone crags in the country the Roaches hold a special place in the heart of British climbers\, with a range of grades and styles\, including balancey slabs and pumpy cracks. \nThere two main gritstone outcrops\, ‘Ramshaw Rocks’ famous for the ‘Winking Man’ rock formation and ‘Hen Cloud’ offering stunning panoramic views. For something a bit different there are the Roaches and reservoirs cycle routes – the 6.8 miles Roaches loop or the 10.8 miles Rudyard loop\, both travelling through a landscape of traditional villages and spectacular gritstone edges. Apparently there are even wild roaming Wallabies that escaped from a private zoo in the 1930’s! \nWe would particularly like to encourage members to bring along any friends who they think might be interested in the club – climbers\, walkers\,  anyone who might enjoy the outdoors and what we do. SUMMARY:Llangollen (Clwyd)
DESCRIPTION:It’s North Wales\, but further East than we usually hang out! Llangollen has plenty of limestone to go at for the climbers\, including loads of sport routes at Trevor Quarry and trad at Dinbren Crags. It’s a hidden gem! \nIt’s also a beautiful area to walk through\, including a UNESCO World Heritage Site which covers the eleven miles of canal from Chirk Bank to Horseshoe Falls. Or if you want to gain a bit more height there’s the 8.5km Panorama walk that takes you up to Creifiau Eflwyseg\, with spectacular views of the surrounding mountain range.

DESCRIPTION:Beautiful South Devon in the summertime\, no-where better to be! Will it be warm enough for some deep water soloing!? only time and tide will tell. \nThere’s always the sea cliffs to go at\, or if you head up towards the moors there’s the granite classic of the Dewerstone. \nFor walkers there is so much gorgeous countryside you’ll be spoilt for choice\, dramatic coastal path\, rolling hills and leafy woodland\, or vast and spectacular moorland (sometimes with ponies). \nAnd of course there is always the Devon cream tea – Cream First!!
