SUMMARY:The Lakes in February
DESCRIPTION:We will be heading to the delights of the Lake District in February\, staying near Helvellyn for up to 3 nights. \nWe are also hoping to organise Winter Skills training for this meet\, though the current COVID climate is making the logistics of planning this challenging and it has to be considered TBC at this stage. \n\nDate: 18th – 21st February\nTime: When you’re able to get up there!\nLocation: Bury Jubilee Outdoor Pursuits Centre – https://www.buryhostel.org.uk/\nOrganiser: Matt\nContact: socialsec@themmc.org.uk \n\nIf you are new to the club\, you must contact membership@themmc.org.uk outlining your interests and experience before contacting the meet organiser. \nTravel is usually by car share. The trip organiser will do their best to place you into cars leaving from your area but this sometimes doesn’t work out. \nSafety & Gear \nThis is a winter meet and therefore you are expected to have the correct equipment for it. You are also expected to have experience of hill walking\, as walking uphill in snow and ice can be strenuous. \nIf we feel you are not ready for these conditions we will let you know before the meet. Please do ask if you’re unsure. \nOur club members are usually happy to group up with others. However\, if you do not have the correct (winter) equipment with you for your activities or they feel you are unable to join\, you will be asked to stay behind. This is strictly for safety reasons and not available for negotiation. Please keep in mind that they are not professional mountaineers or mountain rescue volunteers. \nWe have a kit list available to check against: https://themmc.org.uk/kit-lists/ \nIf you are missing gear we may be able to assist or direct you to recommended reasonably priced items if you let us know in advance. \nCOVID-19 \nWe support the use of and please do take a Lateral Flow Test pre-travel for the safety of the passengers and other attendees at the hut\, and the vulnerable people they may live with. We also encourage attendees to test afterwards too and contact the Chair for any positive tests so they can inform the group and keep you anonymous: chair@themmc.org.uk \nPlease make sure to bring several masks with you for the trip. England\, Wales\, and Scotland all have slightly different rules regarding this. This will also help protect yourself and others you may live with. \nPlease remember to bring your own hand sanitiser\, avoid sharing food and drink where possible\, and wash your hands after being in contact with surfaces. \nThe BMC recognises that climbing and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions.
