DESCRIPTION:Devil’s Dyke & South Downs Walk from Hassocks \nJoin us for a scenic day out in the South Downs\, walking from the village of Hassocks across the rolling chalk hills to the spectacular Devil’s Dyke. \n\nDate: Sunday 26th September 2026\nTime: 9am – evening\nMeeting Point: London Victoria Station\nRoute Type: Circular\nRoute Start: Hassocks Station\nOrganiser: Mo  socialsec@themmc.org.uk\nSign up: https://forms.gle/N9FUsWdD77AfXrHE8 \nPub/Foods: On the way back\, we will stop at The Thatched Inn\, on Grand Avenue\, Hassocks BN6 8DH for a late lunch/drinks.\n\nThe route begins in Hassocks and climbs into the South Downs\, crossing the first ridge before descending towards the village of Pyecombe. From there\, we’ll head back uphill and make our way towards Devil’s Dyke\, a dramatic natural valley and one of the best-known viewpoints in the South Downs. A popular destination since Victorian times\, it offers fantastic views across the surrounding countryside. \nTerrain & equipment: There are several steep climbs and descents\, so a reasonable level of fitness is required. The chalky South Downs paths can become particularly muddy and slippery after rain\, so sturdy walking boots or shoes with good grip are strongly recommended. Please also bring waterproofs\, warm layers\, water and food for the day. \nA great opportunity to stretch the legs\, enjoy some classic South Downs scenery and spend a day walking with the MMC.

SUMMARY:Swanage
DESCRIPTION:Although the days are shortening\, Autumn is the perfect time of year for a trip to the spectacular Swanage.  \nFor those that haven’t been to Swanage before\, there is (as with so many places along the south coast) a little bit of everything. The jewel in the crown is Boulder Ruckle\, a spectacular 40m cliff extending for over a kilometre\, offering exhilarating climbing in spectacular positions\, at grades from HS upwards. For those seeking a gentler introduction to sea cliff climbing\, there is Subliminal\, with an excellent collection of lower-grade single pitch trad routes in a relaxed and (usually) sunny setting. Sport climbers have plenty of options too\, with Dancing Ledge the go-to venue for those who prefer bolts – Portland is also within striking distance\, for sport climbing or bouldering. October might be a little late for DWS\, but there is some around for those feeling especially brave.
