SUMMARY:Peak District Training Meet
DESCRIPTION:This is our training meet! \nA fantastic opportunity for those new to climbing outdoors\, or any climbers looking to improve or refresh their skills.  \nWalkers and members are welcome as always! Prospective members will be excited to spend time with you all too. \nThe Peak District has excellent trad climbing\, as well as sport\, and is a beautiful area to walk in (also very good cafes!). \n\nDate: Friday 13th June – Sunday 15th June 2025\nTime: When you or your travelling group is ready!\nLocation: White House Farm Campsite (to be paid through the club\, see details in sign up form)\nOrganiser: Anna – membership@themmc.org.uk\nSign-up Form: MMC Peak & Training Sign Up\n\nTraining Details \nYou’ll spend two days learning how to transfer your indoor climbing skills to the outdoors. Sign up by 1st June latest to secure a place. \nWe’ll cover: \n\nTop roping (both belaying from the ground and from the top of the crag)\nAbseiling\nSeconding a lead climber (removing protection on the way)\nBuilding anchors \nSafe conduct at the crag\n\nIf you come on the meet\, you’ll be able to get loads of time climbing on rock\, and meet like minded people to build your climbing network. We aim to give you the skills to be a confident second (belaying and following a lead climber)\, so that you can participate on other club meets\, and build your skills to develop your own independent climbing. \n You must have been met by a club member in advance of the weekend\, to check you can tie-in and belay (our Bowles Rocks Day Social Climb on 31st May is a good opportunity to do this; MMC Bowles Sign Up\, but we can also make arrangements to it at a climbing wall in London). Please get in touch with the organiser\, Anna (membership@themmc.org.uk) before\, or when you sign up\, to arrange this. \nYou will need basic rope climbing skills and equipment to join the training weekend. \nThe training is led by a qualified club member\, assisted by other friendly club volunteers\, and we ask for a nominal donation of £15 towards running of the club and carbon off-setting. \nWe’re a club run by volunteers (we are not a provider\, we are overseen by the BMC as a club)   \nThe weekend is a camping meet. You need to bring or hire your own climbing essentials. See our kit lists on the website: Kit Lists – The Marylebone Mountaineering Club.  \nThe BMC recognises that climbing and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions.

SUMMARY:Social Climb - The Castle
DESCRIPTION:The Castle is home to many of our members – some even call it their spiritual home\, so let’s go there and join them for an afternoon of climbing! \n\nDate: Wednesday 25 June 2025\nTime: 6pm – 9pm\nClosest Station: Manor House Underground Station (Piccadilly Line)\nOrganisers: Mo  socialsec@themmc.org.uk and Anna Z membership@themmc.org.uk  \nSign up: https://forms.gle/c7q2iuoSg3fbbGkv6 \nPub/Foods: From 8pm we’ll go to The Brownswood Pub: https://thebrownswood.co.uk/ for some food\, snacks\, and chatter.\n\n\nProspectives – All prospective members to the club must let us know they are joining us so we can look out for you. \nMembers – you’re more than welcome to join! Let us know if you’re coming along. \nNon-Castle members will need to pre-book or pay on arrival. Please check their website.  \nIf you do not have your own climbing shoes\, harness or belay device you should be able to hire them from their shop. \nIf you want to lead climb\, we would suggest you bring your own single rope. A 30m rope would be ideal\, but any length will work. \nThis is not a training session\, but we should have experienced members on hand to observe your belaying technique if you are new to the club\, or you’d like us to observe any rusty skills post-long periods off climbing. \nThe BMC recognises that climbing and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions.
