SUMMARY:The Roaches / Southern Peak District
DESCRIPTION:This part of the Peak District boasts impressive gritstone edges and craggy rocks loved by walkers and climbers. As one of the best gritstone crags in the country the Roaches hold a special place in the heart of British climbers\, with a range of grades and styles\, including balancey slabs and pumpy cracks. \nThere two main gritstone outcrops\, ‘Ramshaw Rocks’ famous for the ‘Winking Man’ rock formation and ‘Hen Cloud’ offering stunning panoramic views. For something a bit different there are the Roaches and reservoirs cycle routes – the 6.8 miles Roaches loop or the 10.8 miles Rudyard loop\, both travelling through a landscape of traditional villages and spectacular gritstone edges. Apparently there are even wild roaming Wallabies that escaped from a private zoo in the 1930’s! \nWe would particularly like to encourage members to bring along any friends who they think might be interested in the club – climbers\, walkers\,  anyone who might enjoy the outdoors and what we do.
