SUMMARY:Social Climb: New Members Welcome at Harrison's Rocks
DESCRIPTION:The Bowles Website has an update stating there is a Private Event on\, so we’re switching to Harrison’s Rocks. The location is close to Bowles. Everyone travelling by train should try to meet together so we can take the route from the station together. \n \nBowles Rocks is one of the more popular Southern Sandstone outcrops of southeast England\, a soft sandstone of Cretaceous age near Tunbridge Wells. \nIt is deservedly popular as it is a great spot for people of all ages and abilities to climb\, with convenient onsite facilities and parking. \nExperienced climbers will be on hand to set up top roped routes for everyone to have a go on\, so come on down and meet the club. \n\nDate: Saturday 8th June\nLocation: Harrison’s Rocks – https://www.southernsandstoneclimbs.co.uk/p/harrisons-rocks.html\nTime (Public Transport): London Bridge or London Victoria train to Eridge OR London Charing Cross train to Tunbridge Wells and taxi from there\nTime (Private Transport): Please aim to arrive at around 10:30 / 11:00\nPub: The Huntsman – https://huntsmanpuberidge.co.uk\nOrganiser: Christine\nRegister your interest here: https://forms.gle/QCWneMRcpghWEawi7\n\nIf you haven’t met us before please let us know\, we’ll try to meet you at the Castle the weekend before. \nCaveats: There may be last minute changes as a result of bad weather\, as climbing on the soft sandstone in anything other than good/dry conditions is very damaging to the rock. \n\nAll attendees must have their own climbing shoes and harness. It would be very helpful if you also brought your own belay device and locking carabiner.  If you have a helmet\, it’s your choice whether to bring it or not. Chalk is not forbidden\, but discouraged due to its effect on the rock\, and please leave your chalk brushes at home.\n\nIf you have have a 30m rope\, slings\, or carabiners please let us know if you are able to bring them for the day so we can set up additional routes. An old towel or mat to clean our shoes on before climbing will help us preserve the rock also. \nThis is not a training session but we will have experienced members on hand to observe your belaying technique if you are new to the club or you’d like us to observe any rusty skills post-long periods off climbing.

SUMMARY:Wye Valley Training Meet
DESCRIPTION:This is our training meet! \nYup\, we’ve moved our training meet later this year to June and to the Wye Valley as the weather is kinder and access to the area easier to get to. 🙂 \nWalkers and members are welcome as always! Prospective members will be excited to spend time with you all too. The Wye Valley also has some excellent sports and trad climbing areas and is a favourite area. \n\nDate: Friday 21st June – Sunday 23rd June 2024\nTime: When you or your travelling group is ready!\nLocation: Beeches Farm Campsite – https://www.beechesfarmcampsite.co.uk\nOrganiser: Please direct queries through to (updated from previous training email temporarily): chair@themmc.org.uk \nSign-up Form: As of 17/06/2024 – Training spaces are now filled – members\, send me an email if you’re joining us generally. You’ll need to book the campsite separately now.\n\nTraining Details \nThis is being organised by one of our committee members with the help of other helpful members who will be sharing their excellent skills and techniques on the rock. \nTraining includes: Bottom and top roping outdoors\, abseiling\, seconding lead climbers on trad climbs. If we have time we’ll cover traditional gear placements\, building anchors\, and more. \nWe do request a small amount of money to reserve a spot (details in the Sign-up form) – this will be going to one of the Carbon Offsetting projects we support\, Trees For Life: https://treesforlife.org.uk/groves/336079/ \nMeeting Us Beforehand \nIf you’re a prospective or a member without outdoor climbing experience looking to join in with our outdoor climbing\, get in touch well in advance so we can arrange to meet you indoors\, you’ll need basic indoor rope climbing skills and equipment to join the training weekend. Please avoid signing up before getting in touch first. \nWe’re a club run by volunteers (we are not a provider\, we are overseen by the BMC as a club) and sign-ups from prospective members we have not communicated with may result in rejection.  \nYou can also join us at Bowles which is happening just before (the UK weather has had us rescheduling a couple of times): https://themmc.org.uk/meet/social-climb-new-members-welcome-southern-sandstone/ *Session has now passed* \nThe BMC recognises that climbing and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions.
