SUMMARY:Social Climb: The Castle - Meet us!
DESCRIPTION:Have you considered climbing or hiking with a club but not sure where to start? Come along to our socials to meet us! \nFor this weekend\, we’re running our social climb at The Castle\, followed by drinks in the The Brownswood Pub across the road. \nThis is a great opportunity to meet the club if you are new to us\, or to meet up with fellow members if it’s been awhile\, and to do lots of climbing of course! \nIf you’re a hiker\, please feel free to join us at the pub. The food is nice and the atmosphere nice and friendly. \n\nDate: Saturday 11th May 2024\nLocation: The Castle Climbing Centre – https://www.castle-climbing.co.uk/\nTime: 13:00\nPub: The Brownswood – https://www.thebrownswood.co.uk/\nPub Time: 16:00\nOrganiser: Christine\nRegister your interest here: https://forms.gle/QCWneMRcpghWEawi7 or email Christine at: chair@themmc.org.uk\n\nA week later we’ll be going to Bowles\, please let us know if you’re interested in that too! The event link for Bowles is here: https://themmc.org.uk/meet/social-climb-new-members-welcome-bowles-rocks/ \nNon-Castle members will need to pre-book or pay on arrival at The Castle. \nIf you do not have your own climbing shoes\, harness or belay device these can be hired from The Castle shop. \nIf you want to Lead Climb\, we would suggest you bring your own single rope.  A 30m rope would be ideal\, but any length will work. \nThis is not a training session\, but we will have experienced members on hand to observe your belaying technique if you are new to the club or you’d like us to observe any rusty skills post-long periods off climbing.

SUMMARY:Dartmoor
DESCRIPTION:We haven’t seen Dartmoor in a bit so we’re hopping over there for this meet and bank holiday. It’s a beautiful national park with wild horses grazing about! \n\nDate: Friday 24th May – Monday 27th May 2024\nTime: When you or your travelling group is ready!\nLocation: Beara Farm Campsite – https://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=1284\nOrganiser: We’re looking for one! If you’re a member\, please contact us if you’re interested in running the meet: meets@themmc.org.uk\nRegistration Form: https://forms.gle/ra5rMkBCpE5pohfg9\n\nThe campsite is £9 per person\, per night.  \nClimbers have a good range of climbing options\, including some very cool Tors in view of all the national park visitors and wild horses. \nMeanwhile hikers have a pick of some of the more delightful walking areas – https://www.dartmoor.gov.uk/enjoy-dartmoor/outdoor-activities/walking/walking-routes \n— \nTo our Prospective Members – we support our members in showing the ropes to new climbers\, however please recognise if you haven’t had any trad-climbing training yet as a seconder or have had regular indoor rope experience (for sport climbing)\, you may be requested to join the walking group(s) if the climbing leaders do not feel comfortable to take you out. This is a decision we will support. There will be a specific training meet a bit later in the year. \nThe BMC recognises that climbing and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions.
