The MMC headed to Capel Curig in January and stayed in the Glan Dwr Mountain Lodge which is next door to the Pinnacle Stores and Café, and despite the adverse weather conditions at the time enjoyed a rain free weekend.
On Saturday there were three groups, Andy F, Rob and Kasia some others went for a mammoth hike over towards the Carnedds taking in at least 5 or 6 peaks, Irene and Andy V headed off on their bikes around Betws-Y-Coed and did the Marin Trail and Penmanchno, and Jules and Sophie and friends headed to Moel Siabod with Nick and John E in tow. And this was a great walk for Sophie’s friends who’d never before ventured into the Welsh Mountains and they loved it and really enjoyed their well-earned mulled wine and cakes in the Pen-y-Gwryd Hotel once they’d circumnavigated the mountain in one piece before catching the bus from there back to Capel Curig and being serenaded by two very merry Welsh farmers!
On Saturday evening Andy F, Kesia and Irene headed to Plas Y Brenin for a lecture on sports and trad climbing and winter mountaineering and also enjoyed a good supper there, and the rest of us reserved some tables in the Tyn-Y-Coed and enjoyed a nice supper and a few beers.
On Sunday Rob did his usual run up Moel Siabod before breakfast and afterward joined most of the gang for a walk which was intended to take the path from Capel Curig towards Llyn Ogwen and up by Tryfan to Flyder Fach and back via Cefn Y Capel but they only just got passed Tryfan before turning back as they were short of time. Meanwhile Irene and Andy V cycled up Snowdon from Llanberis and enjoyed freewheeling all the way down it again!
