Outdoor Climbing

We welcome new members at all levels of experience.

We have climbers active at grades from 5 to 6c on Sport and trad’ Severe to E2, with most in the VS-E1 range. We also have a team of newer recruits sharpening their skills in the VDiff to HS range.

The club’s climbing activities revolve around the regular monthly meets as well as more informal weekend trips. The MMC climbs throughout the UK, from Cornwall to Scotland, as well as venturing to Europe in search of winter sunshine or summer alpinism. There are usually one or two trips per year to boulder at Fontainebleau.

In the winter, the emphasis moves to mountaineering and ice climbing. In the past members have organised ice climbing trips to places like Cogne, the Les Ecrins, Chamonix and Colorado, as well as making the occasional foray in to Scotland when conditions are good.

Indoor Climbing

Members tend to be climbing indoors at 5 to 6c and bouldering.

For indoor climbing, look out for Anna mid week (above) or Harry on a Sunday at The Castle in an MMC top. Contact indoor@themmc.org.uk to arrange for someone to meet you.

Check out our Facebook page for planned wall sessions: https://www.facebook.com/groups/MaryleboneMountaineeringClub/
Also, we ask, if you are a complete beginner that you attend a basic course showing you how to tie in and belay safely. These are available at the Westway and the Castle.

The most popular centres with MMC members are the Westway and the Castle climbing walls. For an excellent overview of all the centres that London has to offer see the London Climbing Guide.
