The MMC turned 50 this year, September 26th to be exact!
On September 1st, we went to the Camden club to hold our 50th Anniversary Party.
During the party we had several speakers talk about the club’s history: John P, David D, Ali T, Oli B, Oscar A, and Steve M. Everyone talked about different aspects of the club, from early history to present, what the club meant to them and to everyone, recovering from injury, and the amazing adventures they have been on.
It was pretty amazing to listen to and watch the slides roll past with memories of members captured in the moments they spent together. Even with injuries, members kept in touch and came back stronger than ever. What is great is how welcoming and adaptable everyone really is – you could aim for mountains and famous rock faces to tackle to a relaxed stroll or saunter to the local village if you just needed to join for the social aspect, but couldn’t take part in any strenuous activities.
The most important aspect of all the talks and the evening was how friendship and connection has been the core of the club, and has carried the club through the last 50 years. Even presently, connections cross from the newer members all the way to the more experienced and legacy members. We’re a small club (72 current members at the time of writing!) but that has been instrumental in keeping our active groups familiar and people we want to spend our time with in the outdoors.
Thank you to the wonderful speakers and thank you to everyone who attended. Many of you have been committee members before and we really would encourage everyone to continue participating in the club and deciding which adventures to go on next.
P.S. the club featured in the BMC, issue 119, page 6!
