Cornwall

May 7, 2021 - May 9, 2021

Save the date! Hopefully our first meet out we’ll be heading to Cornwall. Cornwall is full of different outdoor activities from walking and climbing to kayaking, surfing, and browsing the town.

Date: Friday 7th May – Sunday 9th/Monday 10th May (We’re looking to expand to have a pseudo Bank Holiday)

Location: Strives Camping and Hostel – Currently a tentative yes.

Closest Train Station: Carbis Bay Railway Station

This is a camping meet so you’ll need camping gear / rent a tent onsite if available / campervan or plan appropriate alternatives. Please check the campsite website for other options and let us know your plans.

Important notes for new and inexperienced Trad Climbers:

Please note that as of the last Committee meeting, we have made the decision to make the event members only in the interest of safety, the complications of restricted travel, and also that prospective members will be unable to experience the club fully.

For our members a reminder that: Much of the climbing here is adventurous sea cliffs. New and inexperienced trad climbers will only really be able to go to a few spots including inland areas in Cornwall (i.e. Cheesewring Quarry, The Devil’s Jump, Roche Rock) and further away (2hrs) in Devon and Dartmoor. Please do not expect or request experienced members take you to cliffs / routes requiring abseiling. Therefore please plan to do other activities too.

Get in touch with Alix at deputy@themmc.org.uk to be added to the list to join us.

We will not be accepting any on-the-day arrivals and require attendees to fill out a form prior to the event. Therefore you must be in contact with us from at least the week before or at the earliest convenience

(Lockdown) Organised Outdoor Sports Activities Guidance (Updated 28/03/2021):

From the 29th March, Clubs are able to run organised sports activities. There are no official limitations outlines by the Government, Sports England, or the BMC.

We will continue to apply social distancing rules as expected for everyone and to assist in maintaining attendee safety we may have a rough limit of 30 attendees. This includes reserving around five places for experienced members who can act as responsible persons if the event needs to split into smaller groups.

This is subject to changes in recommendations from Sports England and the BMC.
