Swanage

Although the days are shortening, Autumn is the perfect time of year for a trip to the spectacular Swanage.
For those that haven’t been to Swanage before, there is (as with so many places along the south coast) a little bit of everything. The jewel in the crown is Boulder Ruckle, a spectacular 40m cliff extending for over a kilometre, offering exhilarating climbing in spectacular positions, at grades from HS upwards. For those seeking a gentler introduction to sea cliff climbing, there is Subliminal, with an excellent collection of lower-grade single pitch trad routes in a relaxed and (usually) sunny setting. Sport climbers have plenty of options too, with Dancing Ledge the go-to venue for those who prefer bolts – Portland is also within striking distance, for sport climbing or bouldering. October might be a little late for DWS, but there is some around for those feeling especially brave. Those more interested in walking have the ever-present South West Coast Path – Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door being particular local highlights (even if usually rather busy).
What’s more, we’ll be staying at a bunkhouse this time, so evenings promise to be that bit more comfortable – see you all there!
