New Member’s Meet at Harrison’s Rocks – October

October 3 @ 11:00 am - 5:00 pm

October session! If you are an indoor climber looking to go outdoors, join us. 😁

We are now doing the top-rope belaying check with new and prospective members at Harrison’s Rocks. The belaying check is important for your own and our member’s safety. Experienced members will be putting up the top ropes on routes for you to try. So you’ll get the double whammy of discovering the joys of sandstone (ehem) and meeting new people at the same time. 😃

New members equipment required:
– Climbing shoes, harness, and chalk bag.
– Food, water, warm clothing.

Experienced members, please bring the above. If you have offered/are willing to help out with equipment, please liaise with the group.
Station: Eridge
– Trains from London Bridge are every hour. We will have less light and therefore less climbing.
– Please meet on the platform for the train and night owls for the 10:07 train (this might change to an hour before, watch this space).

Due to the updates in the law, we expect to picnic where we are able to maintain social distancing.

If the weather is poor the day before, we will be unable to go. This is due to the fragility of the rock. After this we don’t expect much in the way of good weather so we will be unable to run more new member’s climbing meets. Prospective members will still be welcome to hang out on hiking/walking days/weekends.

All those who are interested in joining us are requested to email Marie prior to the day: membership@themmc.org.uk

For consideration
– We must cap the meet to 30 and along with the BMC recommendations, aim to split groups into 6 people per group.
– Climbing tends to be close contact, please plan to bring additional masks to wear when if required.
– Please do not share food or drink unless you’re already in a household or in a support bubble with that person. It’s tempting, but please try not to!
– We cannot accept anyone who turns up on the day.
– We will hold onto contact details in line with regulations and inform attendees if there is a report of COVID-19 post-event (keeping the reporting persons anonymous).

Please (please…) note that we can only organise this meet if everyone sticks to the guidance and rules in particular you must be able now and before the day be able to confirm

– I do not currently have symptoms of COVID-19 (new persistent dry cough, fever, loss of taste or smell)

(Individuals who have completed their period of isolation (10 days) and have no remaining symptoms (other than a dry cough or loss of taste or smell which can last for some time) may return to normal activities)
– No member of my household has had symptoms of COVID-19 or has tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 14 days
– I have not been contacted by a contact tracer from the Test, Trace and Protect Programme and told to isolate in the last 14 days as a contact of someone with confirmed COVID-19
– I have not returned from a country outside of the UK in the last 14 days, other than those on the exempt list (https://gov.wales/exemptions-self-isolation-coronavirus-covid-19-html)
