Devil’s Dyke & South Downs Walk from Hassocks

Join us for a scenic day out in the South Downs, walking from the village of Hassocks across the rolling chalk hills to the spectacular Devil’s Dyke.

The route begins in Hassocks and climbs into the South Downs, crossing the first ridge before descending towards the village of Pyecombe. From there, we’ll head back uphill and make our way towards Devil’s Dyke, a dramatic natural valley and one of the best-known viewpoints in the South Downs. A popular destination since Victorian times, it offers fantastic views across the surrounding countryside.

Terrain & equipment: There are several steep climbs and descents, so a reasonable level of fitness is required. The chalky South Downs paths can become particularly muddy and slippery after rain, so sturdy walking boots or shoes with good grip are strongly recommended. Please also bring waterproofs, warm layers, water and food for the day.

A great opportunity to stretch the legs, enjoy some classic South Downs scenery and spend a day walking with the MMC.
