Wye Valley Training Meet

June 21 @ 5:00 pm - June 23 @ 5:00 pm

This is our training meet!

Yup, we’ve moved our training meet later this year to June and to the Wye Valley as the weather is kinder and access to the area easier to get to. 🙂

Walkers and members are welcome as always! Prospective members will be excited to spend time with you all too. The Wye Valley also has some excellent sports and trad climbing areas and is a favourite area.

  • Date: Friday 21st June – Sunday 23rd June 2024
  • Time: When you or your travelling group is ready!
  • Location: Beeches Farm Campsite – https://www.beechesfarmcampsite.co.uk
  • Organiser: Please direct queries through to (updated from previous training email temporarily): chair@themmc.org.uk
  • Sign-up Form: As of 17/06/2024 – Training spaces are now filled – members, send me an email if you’re joining us generally. You’ll need to book the campsite separately now.

Training Details

This is being organised by one of our committee members with the help of other helpful members who will be sharing their excellent skills and techniques on the rock.

Training includes: Bottom and top roping outdoors, abseiling, seconding lead climbers on trad climbs. If we have time we’ll cover traditional gear placements, building anchors, and more.

We do request a small amount of money to reserve a spot (details in the Sign-up form) – this will be going to one of the Carbon Offsetting projects we support, Trees For Life: https://treesforlife.org.uk/groves/336079/

Meeting Us Beforehand

If you’re a prospective or a member without outdoor climbing experience looking to join in with our outdoor climbing, get in touch well in advance so we can arrange to meet you indoors, you’ll need basic indoor rope climbing skills and equipment to join the training weekend. Please avoid signing up before getting in touch first.

We’re a club run by volunteers (we are not a provider, we are overseen by the BMC as a club) and sign-ups from prospective members we have not communicated with may result in rejection.

You can also join us at Bowles which is happening just before (the UK weather has had us rescheduling a couple of times): https://themmc.org.uk/meet/social-climb-new-members-welcome-southern-sandstone/ *Session has now passed*

The BMC recognises that climbing and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions.
